The larger region that our Young Life area (Lake Norman) is a part of, has been putting on a 5K fundraiser for the last 5 years or so. 100% of the race proceeds go to sending kids to camp during the summer where they will hear all about Jesus. This year's race was one of the largest on record with about 500 people at the event. It is a really fun, high energy crowd, and is always a great morning. Ellie was going for a personal record and I think she may have just made it by running the race in about 30 minutes flat. James was NOT going for a personal record and put in a blazing 24 minute effort - although pushing a double jogger stroller with two kids, everyone's warm clothing, and I am pretty sure a few of Karin's dumbells, should count for something... The weather started cold but as soon as the sun jumped over the walls of the stadium it warmed right up to be a perfectly comfortable shorts and short sleeve t-shirt kind of race. We were able to partcipate in some great worship and a message after the race in the pit crew garage.
On the way out I snagged one of the left over boxes of sliced up oranges and when we got home I decided to make some fresh squezed orange juice. My hands still hurt today (24 + hours later) after coaxing about a half gallon of juice from 2,567 orange slices....The kids ate oranges all afternoon...after dinner...took some to school...ate some after school....we gave some to neighbors...it was a large box of oranges :)
