This weekend was the annual Father/Daughter dance. My girls have been excited about getting all dressed up and going to this party for weeks now. Finally on Saturday the big day had arrived. Dresses were being taken for test drives, hair was being done, nails painted, shoes modeled....it was quite a day of prep....and all so very worth it since I had the two best looking princesses at the dance!
Ava's dance was from 5:00 - 7:00. Per our tradition we skipped the mile long food line and went straight for the chocolate fountains where Ava (and I) loaded up on strawberries, pound cake, and marshmallows to dip in the fountain. Ava then wanted to hit the dance floor and that's what we did...for about an hour....before taking a break to grab a little jar of candy (the theme this year was candyland) and then dance some more! This kid was all smiles and full of limitless energy. She managed to find her favorite little friend Keller and about 4 other classmates and they all started a congo line which grew to about 23 kids. Ava was very proud to have been the first conductor of this impressive sized train. By the time we finished our last slow dance of the night this dad was one tired puppy.
Then we headed home so I could pick up princess #2 for her 7:30 - 9:30 dance. Ava had insisted on a tie while Ellie insisted that I not wear a tie...so I actually changed clothes in between dances. The whole way to the dance Ellie kept saying she was going to find Sarah and stay with her the whole night...and so she did - hand in hand. It was interesting to see the difference between the younger group and the older group. As expected I suppose, the older kids are more into their friends and spending the night on the dance floor in little groups. I hung out with some of the other parents for much of the night and made a number of forays into the dance floor jungle to snap some secret pictures and videos of the natives in their element. I was able to hunt miss Ellie down for the two slow songs of the night and she danced with her daddy. She is growing up.
