Nurturing the Grass Monster

Tim Allen would have been grunting away if he had been in my garage this past weekend.  I decided to take advantage of the rainy weather and knock out some much needed mower maintenance.  The service manual for my mower suggests you do this stuff every 100 or 200 hours of engine usage.  I am a fairly "light" user of the ol' commercial walk-behind blade cutting machine.  I might manage to bust out 20 hrs of usage per season, but not much more.  So after 4 seasons of use it was time...

I purchased a Kohler CommandPro maintenance kit on-line which came with all the goodies I would need; special blend synthetic oil, oil filter, fuel filter, air cleaner, and spark plug.  I pulled off the blades and sharpened them & I pulled out the grease gun to hit all the rotating parts.  After having done all of this, I can truly say that I have done more mower maintenance than car maintenance thus far in my life!  I can also say that I am SO glad I threw down that epoxy paint on the garage floors when we moved in as I spilled a healthy amount of oil during the process :(  But on epoxy floors it wipes right up!

The other funny thing was that I am pretty sure I have never used the jack in the Camry to change the Camry tires....but I have now used the jack in the Camry to change the oil in my mower...ironic.

ps - below is a picture of my brother-in-law Dan on his SWEET snapper mower.  Picture taken last summer.
