Almost Like My Birthday

Yesterday at small group the Riley's celebrated Todd Murphy's 63rd birthday by buying him his favorite wings and by making him a Funfetti birthday cake.  It was a very nice thing to do.

The best part about this is that the Riley's don't really eat sweets and did not want the "33 grams of fat per wing" food sitting in their house.  So the offer was thrown out there for someone to take the leftovers home.  I calmly expressed my interest in the cake by jumping up and down with my hand in the air yelling "pick me, pick me" - anyone who knows me knows that it doesn't get any better than Funfetti.  I then suggested to Emily (Todd's wife - much younger than him) that they take the wings home since they are Todd's favorites.  She laughed - no strike that - she guffawed - at the notion of Todd taking home leftovers.  She said Todd does not eat leftovers; "they have been sitting around too long."  Who doesn't eat leftovers?  Leftovers are the best thing ever.  So when Todd was asked if he wanted to take them home he said "no, no they have been sitting around too long..."  Ok, so Emily knows her husband pretty well and I walked out of there with a carton full of wings and 25% of a SWEET birthday cake.  It was almost like it was my birthday...

Fast forward to tonight.  Dad is at home with the kiddies while mom is working at her non-profit(http://www.homeappetitkitchen.com/).  I made a delicious, healthy, and nutritious dinner of left over pizza, left over wings, and salad.  Ellie knocked off the pizza pretty quick and excitedly asked me if she could have a wing - she recently had wings and LOVED them.  However, I was about to find out that her previous experience with wings was the sweet, non-spicy kind of wings...  She took a big ol' bite and chewed it for about 3 seconds before forcefully ejecting said bite back onto her plate.  Her eyes were running by this point and she was crying/screaming and stomping her feet.  I guess these were spicy wings...don't get mad at me - I didn't know!!  She then ran inside like a crazy girl yelling and screaming to get water.  She finally calmed down about 10 minutes later but did say her lips were still burning.  The picture below was taken about 5 minutes into our saga.  Poor kid :(

  1. Ok, you are getting WAY too full of your bloggin self! First, how funny are you-- "my wife's nonprofit"!!! That's hysterical (sorry, Kar, that's pretty funn!). Second, you are quite the mooch taking someone else's FUNFETTI cake! (hey, can I have some?!!!). Third, poor Ellie. I can't believe the you brought the Rebel XTi and captured the sweet child in mid tears! So sad.

  3. Glad to see I'm not the only one that takes pictures of my kids crying. I feel our readers should have an accurate picture of our lives-both happy and sad! We'll, undoubtedly, miss both someday - and be glad we recorded it!

  4. Thanks for the kind, "much younger" reference. How did the wings and cake treat you? Have you really exercised enough for those rewards?

  5. 3.45 miles this morning. That burned off at least 2 of the 7 wings I ate...
