Staring out the window on a Sunday afternoon into the sunlight makes you think "wow, today would be a great day for a hike." Then you get outside and think "wow, today would be a great day to be inside b/c it is so stinking COLD!!!"
Well we said the heck with this cold weather and decided to get outside anyway. So Ellie, Ava, and Daddy bundled up, and took off on a destination hike. The destination? Mac's house.
We took a trail through the woods that Ava and I had discovered on a previous weekend following a stream uphill through a really neat gorge to pop up close to Mac's house. The kids loved finding ice inside the gorge and probably spent 10 minutes breaking up ice. Ellie decided to bring a piece of ice to Mac for her to see. Since Ellie was carrying this ice in her hands, upon showing the ice to Mac she quickly turned and smashed the ice on the front porch. We were all a little surprised when she did this so we were like "why did you do that?!" and she showed us her bright red hands that had been carrying bare ice....ahh. Mac was up for joining us on the rest of our hike so she continued on with us down and up and down and up the steep slopes as we traversed to the golf course, and then headed to our house for some Wii Mario Cart action.
I continue to be blown away by how much undeveloped space there is nestled around the 4500 homes inside our neighborhood. When driving through HC you would never guess it - but if you simply head out your backyard for some exploration, you will find it.
Wow, I didn't realize how isolated your backyard was. Better tell Ellie and Ava to watch out for those land sharks.
