Almost like a real job

Well I have taken a new job inside of Xerox.  Effective on 5/15/10 I no longer am a Transition Manager in the Communications and Business Process Outsourcing business unit - I am now an Optimization Lead in the Enterprise Print Services Post-Contract Assessment & Design Team.

In order to get me up to speed in this new area of Xerox I have been assigned to work with a number of folks in a shadowing/mentoring/training relationship.  I have also been assigned to a project and in a divine appointment I got assigned to a project that was kicking off this week in CHARLOTTE!  So I got to spent the week "dressing up" in real business casual clothing (vs virtual casual clothing consisting of soccer shorts and white tee shirts) and commuting downtown to meet with the Xerox and client project teams.  Eating meals with collegues, networking with other Xeroids, seeing people I know on the street in downtown charlotte, etc...

The highlight for me was that night after I came home around 9:00 PM Karin told me that Ava had been pretty miffed earlier in the day.  When I left at 1:00 PM I told her that I had to leave to go to a meeting and she went and took her quiet time.  Aparently she came downstairs an hour or two later to talk to me about something and could not find me in my office.  Then she went to Karin and with one hand on her hip and the other one flapping in the air she told Karin that she needed to talk to me but I wasn't there and that I should have been back by now from my meeting.  She was quite annoyed by my whole "leaving the house" thing.  Ellie also was thrown by this whole "dad not at home" thing.  She told me that when she came home from school she came into my office to say hi and I was not there.  Then she "looked all over the house" for me and eventually went to Karin and said "I can't find daddy anywhere mom - where is he?!"  When told I had left in the car to go to a meeting she just blinked a few times and said "huh?"

This week definitely showed me how blessed I am to have the flexible working arrangement that I normally have.  It also brought to light how stagnant and bored I had been in my previous role not being forced to learn many new things.  This new role is all new and so far - all fun.

The pictures below are of the kickoff meeting we conducted.  It had about 12 Xerox and 40 client members.  It was held in an auditorium with wireless microphones.  Probably the biggest kickoff I have ever been in.  The second picture is the view out the window of the conference room where we did some breakout sessions on the 23rd floor of the building we were in.

  1. Well congrats on the new gig!
That's quite a job title... I'm sure I won't remember it... unless I can refer to you as the OLE PSP CADT. Sounds like a Mexican gaming feline.
