For all you Settlers of Catan fans out there, here is a similar "board game" that you will really like - it is called Carcassonne. It is a tile-laying game built around the southern French city of Carcassonne which is famous for its unique Roman and Medieval fortifications. The players develop the area around Carcassonne and deploy their followers on the roads, in the cities, in the cloisters, and in the fields. The skill of the players to develop the area will determine who is victorious.
After playing the game I decided that the word "cloister" does not get nearly enough attention these days and that I needed to use it in a sentence. So I did...and titled a blog post around it. Vocabulary work for saturday...check!
You can either buy it from http://www.boardgamegeek.com/boardgame/822/carcassonne or have Katie and Graham over for pizza like we did and talk them into bringing it :) Now we are kind of addicted and are planning on having KT&G over for lunch and dinner today...and then maybe breakfast in the morning. Graham does not like it when people ignore him and just see the cute little boy in his arms....hopefully he won't mind the next time he comes to our house and we all say Hi....Carcassonne!!!
Carcasonne is awesome...it's a $5 purchase on Xbox Live Arcade as of a year or so ago. Catan was put up in online form about a year before that. The nice thing about Carcasonne (besides the game doing all the scoring for you) is that you can play local multiplayer, since nothing needs to be hidden between players. Maybe you should pick up an Xbox...or have Graham bring his over...
