What are Kapla blocks you ask? Well duh - they are a unique wooden building toy made of pine from renewable French forests that measure 1 X 4.5 X 0.25 inches.
Karin's parents had the GENIUS idea to get a super sized box of 1000 Kapla blocks to have in their bonus room for kids and parents to play with when at their house. This was their family Christmas gift to all their kids and families. Let me tell you, these things are addicting. I found myself laying in bed at night wanting to get up and go play with the Kapla blocks - seriously.
Ellie organized a building contest on the evening we held the first ever Boxing Day family auction (organized, managed, and run by the Frank's) where we broke up into teams of two to create the "best" structure in 10 minutes. When the dust settled the structure built by Team Ellie won first prize - a Wruffle.
Oh, and a shout out to the official photographer of the Kapla event - Ellie Drescher. She put her new digital camera to good use --> thanks again to uncle duece for gifting the camera to Ellie. It has been taken everywhere with her since then...breakfast, bathroom, friend's houses, home depot...
Here are the teams and their amazing structures:
Here are two additional structures created by Ellie (the spider) and by Karin's dad - Bruce.
