Hilton Head 2009

I think my dad told me that this was the 27th year that our family has been going to Hilton Head.  My folks bought the 4th of July week at our timeshare when Kelly and I were really little and we used to drive there from both Dallas, TX (2 day drive) and Pittsburgh, PA.

Some things have changed of course...like the furniture in the "unit" as we fondly call the condo, the rules around how late kids can be in the pool, and the size of our family!  We now require two "units" to house the full Drescher group each year.  This year found the younger group of Drescher's in a beautiful community called Tradewinds.  This place was so much nicer than our current mini-house rental that we really did not want to leave...  Best of all it had a community pool across the street that was within the all important "video monitor distance" b/c you know we don't want to be stuck in the house while the Bransonator is snoozing away...  Part way through the week the party really got started when Bruce, Lynn, John, and Keiko arrived for a couple nights.

This year we brought bikes which ended up being one of my highlights.  I got to take a number of recreational rides with my dad as well as my dad, Lynn, and John.  But I also got to sneak out early in the morning 3 times and do some triathlon training on the bike.  I explored an area on the other side of the cross island parkway bridge in a plantation called Spanish Wells that was probably one of the most scenic bike routes I have ever been on.  I think the road was called Brams Point or something...but it was a narrow strip of road that went out for a half mile or so with intercoaster waterways on either side and huge beautiful houses along the way.  It was AWESOME!!

Other highlights:

1. Playing bridge at night with Dad and Bonnie


2. Dinner at Sante Fe


3. Late night walk to Shelter Cove Marina


4. Pontoon boat rental on the intercoastal waterway


5. Three sleepovers that the girls got to have with Grandpa and Bonnie


6. Watching fireworks on the 4th from the pool at Harbour Point


7. Early morning 20 mile bike rides to Spanish Wells Plantation


8. Watching Uncle John wear himself out playing with the kids at the beach and in the pool


9. Breakfast at the Tradewinds pool (cofee and bagels)


10. The girls painting nails with Auntie Keiko


11. Frozen drinks on the beach on our last day


12. Running on the beach in the early morning sun
