Our little bebe worked hard in March/April to hone her swimming skills in order to pass the swim team tryout test - for her it was a 25 meter swim - any stroke goes. She relied on the patented Avapaddle.
A few weeks later on a very not warm day (65 degrees) she found herself standing at the edge of a very large, very cold looking pool, being the youngest kid on the team, with a coach she had never met before - yelling "go!" and she went....and about 5 meters in she went right to the side of the pool! Her poor little googles had falling off during her jump and she could not see AND she was in shock from the cold water AND she was doing something totally out of her comfort zone. We had a lot of pouty lip and some tears during the first half hour practice, but you know what, by the end of practice she was in there working on her kick and something that looked like a smile showed up as she found herself holding her own against these older kids. That night she even told me that her favorite part of the day was swim team practice!!
After having the first week of practice under her belt, Karin and I could not be more proud of her. She has a great attitude, continues to really work hard, and is learning all the strokes. Ava and daddy did a little sushi reward outing on Friday to celebrate her first week of practice.
Be looking for her in a speedy meet video coming your way in the month of June!

Ava you are a fighter! I am soooooooooo proud of you! Keep working hard. Ask your Aunt Kelly sometime how hard she worked to make her dream come true to be a lifeguard! You come from a long line of fighters who are not afraid of a challenge!
