The physical process of moving is definitely harder than I thought it was going to be. Last weekend was exhausting! Thankfully we have some awesome family and friends who helped us. Without them I would still be moving boxes and furniture...
Even with all the work, there were high moments of the move...here are some of my favorites.
- As our friends pointed out (and I guess it is true) we have a freakishly large quantity of chairs. At one point we had them all in the driveway and it looked like we were setting up for a major event - a church service or a wedding. I think the final count was somewhere around 36....
- My buddy Dave was trying to open the garage at our old place with the code but was pushing the "program" button instead of the "open" button and scared he was going to lock me out, I threw the sliding door shut and just about chopped off his finger...well..it was funny at the time...to me...
- Karin was ordering pizzas for dinner and she asked me how many to order. Not wanting to end up short and risk losing my labor pool I had her order too many as it turns out....we had 4 large pizzas left over AFTER we ate lunch. Let's just say we ate a lot of pizza that next week around our house...
- Garage Tetris. They said it could not be done... That was pretty much the opinion of everyone who looked at our tiny garage and then looked at the huge quantity of boxes and furniture that needed to fit in said tiny garage. I had said I wanted nice and orderly aisles in the garage in order to access boxes - that was met with laughter and guffaws. Well, somhow, someway we managed to pull it off and all that stuff (including a motorcyle and a mower the size of a small car) is actually inside our garage right now.
- The best for last... The highlight of the move - and something I had been planning in my head for weeks - was how we moved the gigantic 15 foot trampoline. After some discussion about using silly pick-up trucks we decided on plan A - put it on top of the jeep. Oh yea - we did it. And it was everything I thought it was going to be. See the pics for a glimpse of what news channels that evening reported as an "unidentified disc like object traveling through highland creek."

Two things....can we please see a picture of the tetris game you played with your garage?! I want to see the aisles James! And 2nd, that trampoline move is the funniest thing I have ever seen. Only YOU James!
ReplyDeleteLeave it to the Drescher's to come up with some crazy idea that actually works! The trampoline move would have had my stomach hurting I can only imagine how much I would have laughed watching that process. Sounds like the new place is really cozy! Good thing you all like each other and I don't think you all smell too much :)
ReplyDeleteJames, The ultimate question is...can the garage compete with the Cowan Catacombs? I think not!
ReplyDeleteJohn and I were wondering how the move went...sounds like you got a lot of help and I am glad it's done! we will be doing our move next year...so I don't want to think about that for a while...haha.
