Our Tin/Aluminum 10th Wedding Anniversary

According to wikipedia the traditional gift on a 10th anniversary is something of tin or aluminum.  My first instinct was to go out and buy Karin a 6 pack of guiness in aluminum cans - sweet, right?  I then decided against it and instead we decided to throw the whole tin/aluminum thing out the window and officially make our 10th Wedding anniversary the year of gasoline.  That's right, we went out and burned up some serious gas on a 950cc, 140 horsepower waverunner on lake Norman.  This small watercraft only has 30 fewer horsepower than our Camry...it goes 0 - 50 in 4.5 seconds.  Yes....it was fun :)

Karin had never been on one before and we took turns driving while the other person held on for dear life.  It was actually quite scary being on the back b/c you really are not that stable.  Karin quickly progressed from a two speed driver (full gas with necks snapping backwards to no gas with foreheads hitting handlebars) to a very proficient pilot - she was even starting to carve up some mean turns.

Karin let me drive us in to the dock when our 1.25 hrs was up and when I looked at my watch and saw that I had a whole 4 minutes left on our rental I decided to head to one last cove for a few calm water 180's.  A little background before I continue...  we were planning to go to dinner right after our ride.  The dude we rented them from said you had to be doing some really insane stuff to flip these things or to even fall off - "they are very stable."  I have to agree...it was really stable...until I got a little too aggresive on a 180 spin and happened to also interact with the wake from a passing by boat...this perfect storm ended up in a slow motion backwards ejection from the waverunner with Karin first in the water soon followed by me.  As I was falling off it looked for sure like the waverunner was going to flip over - I still can't believe it righted itself.

I didn't hear the end of that all night...that we were "4 minutes from being done and you had to do one last trick and then got me all wet!!"  I say it made the trip :)  Dinner at the North Harbor Club followed by ice cream at Bruester's made for a perfect date.
