Ava's Happy Happy Birthday!!!

Our sweet Ava has finally turned 4!  She has always seemed so much older to us so it’s hard to believe she has only just turned 4!   She had quite the birthday on Monday.

James and I decorated the house the night before and wrapped a couple gifts up for her and were ready to hit the ground running in the morning.  We started out with some homemade blueberry pancakes followed by our traditional mother/daughter shopping trip and lunch.

Ava proudly wore her birthday hat to the mall - she insisted….

I asked if she wanted to pick out a dress or a new toy with the money her great grandparents had sent.  She decided she wanted to pick out a dress – when did she get to be so girly??

Anyway, she picked out a dress in the first store and then hit the carousel for a quick ride before heading to Tsunami – her FAVORITE place.  She put on her new dress, put the birthday hat back on and in we went to Japanese Steakhouse where we enjoyed watching them cook our Hibachi Shrimp and Rice meal.

Quite tasty and great entertainment!   After lunch we went home to get ready for her party!  Of course I was already exhausted from the morning and we hadn’t even had her party yet!

A few weeks ago when we were planning her birthday we decided it would be nice to have her birthday party on her actual birthday  -  seemed like a good idea, right? (I’m not so sure anymore… we are still recuperating)

So we planned what we thought was a relatively low key backyard birthday with a few neighbors, her cousins, and a few miscellaneous friends.

We borrowed a bounce house and put out a slip ‘n’ slide and just let the kids play while the adults hung out – seems fairly easy, right?

I don’t know… James and I were completely exhausted by the end of the day.  Good thing we are only planning to do birthday parties every 4 years!

They are sooo much work!  We followed up the kid birthday party with a family dinner in honor of Ava.  Poor Ava was so worn out by the end – but she loved every minute of her crazy Happy Birthday (as we call it around here).

Her favorite part of the day changes every time you ask her – too many fun things to choose from.

She has been looking forward to her birthday pretty much since her last birthday and now she is already excited about her next birthday.  Oh to be a kid again!
