BBQ Worth Blogging About

How telling it is that my last two blog posts have been about exercise and food - two of my loves...  Today I talked Karin into joining me and Branson at the 81st annual Mallard Creek Presbyterian Church BBQ.  She agreed to come and soak in the event even though she was not going to eat BBQ.

The 20 minute wait in traffic just to get into the parking lot was well worth the wait.  The BBQ was smokey, tender, and delicious and the brunswick stew was killer.  Cole slaw was a tad onioney but still a good compliment to the BBQ.  Branson tore up the apple sauce and Sage enjoyed napping in such an eclectic environment.  Branson's least favorite part was when he finally got someone to pour him a cup of water and JUST as he had it touching his lips, a fire truck blew it's air siren and scared him so bad he poured the water all over his lap and was shocked into a 15 second delayed cry.

They will serve over 15,000 people today, make over 400 gallons of free coffee, make 10,000 sandwiches, sell 1,500 lbs of carry-out BBQ, 2500 gallons of cole slaw, and cook around 16,000 lbs of pork hams and shoulders.  Now that is large scale cooking....

I have made it to the last 3 or so of these and as usual I am bummed that I have to wait another 365 days till the next one :)
